We are excited to announce the implementation of Simple Syllabus with Brightspace D2L effective for the Spring 2024 term. This means all instructors will be using Simple Syllabus instead of uploading a Microsoft Word version of their syllabus to their D2L course shell.
What is Simple Syllabus: Using Simple Syllabus means your syllabus will instead be in an electronic format, thereby saving you time and effort by just completing a few fields. Each time you teach a new term, the syllabus created in Simple Syllabus will be automatically imported into the new term’s D2L course shell.
Pre-Populated Data: Some data normally on a syllabus, such as policies, course descriptions, learning outcomes or classroom information, etc., will be pre-populated with up-to-date data directly from our student information system (Colleague). Instructors maintain their academic freedom by having the ability to add their own fields to the electronic syllabus.
Eliminate Double Entry: To make it even easier for instructors, if you use D2L for your assignments, due dates, or calendar, this information can easily be synced to the electronic syllabus. This saves time, as many instructors currently manually add this to their syllabus created in Word and then re-enter that same information into their D2L course shell.
Discover Who Read Your Syllabus: Students review the syllabus following an easy-to-navigate electronic menu (no more flipping through pages of a Word document) and they acknowledge when they read the syllabus in its entirety. Instructors will now know who read their syllabus and reach out to those who did not.
Attend Training: Join the Teaching and Learning as we demonstrate how to use Simple Syllabus for the first time and discover its ease of use.
Bring Your Syllabus (optional): Even though this training session will be delivered through Zoom, if you have your syllabus handy, you can follow along with the training and update your electronic syllabus on the spot.
