SUMMARY:Training Authentically Skilled Graduates in the Age of Generative AI (Vendor Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:For colleges and universities\, the promise and peril of GenAI has given way to an evolving set of expectations\, practices and problems that individual instructors must daily confront. And while this new classroom reality is complex\, there are already instances of GenAI enhancing learning and teaching—especially where openness and a willingness to adapt are present.  \n\n\n\nThis webcast\, inspired by Inside Higher Ed’s recent special report of the same name\, explores GenAI’s potential to enhance learning\, as well as the very real risks it poses to the fundamental mission of higher education\, the production of authentically skilled and credible graduates.  \n\n\n\nThrough research\, expert insights and a series of institutional case studies\, we’ll dive deeper into what practitioners and leaders can do to support students and faculty using GenAI in service of higher education’s highest goal: promoting and certifying real learning.  \n\n\n\nThe webcast will cover the following: \n\n\n\n\nHow to balance academic innovation with integrity\, including implications for assessment \n\n\n\nBuilding institutional trust around generative AI \n\n\n\nFaculty- and institutional-level approaches to using generative AI for real learning \n\n\n\nWhat it means to be an authentically skilled graduate today—including how colleges can ensure students continue to develop durable\, human-centered skills\n\n\n\n\nCan’t attend the webcast? You should still register — all registrants\, including attendees and absentees\, will receive a recording of the webcast and a copy of the presentation slides.  \n\n\n\nRegister for this Event

SUMMARY:From Policy to Practice: Navigating the New Federal Digital Accessibility Rules for Higher Education (OLC free Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:In April 2024\, the U.S. Department of Justice issued new regulations under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that set enforceable standards for digital accessibility. With a compliance deadline of April 24\, 2026\, public colleges\, universities\, and other state and local education systems must act now to ensure their websites\, mobile apps\, course content\, and digital platforms meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements. \n\n\n\nThis webinar will break down what these regulations mean for higher education\, why they matter\, and the concrete steps your institution should take to prepare. We’ll explore the unique challenges colleges and universities face—including legacy course content\, decentralized content creation\, and limited accessibility expertise—and share practical strategies to build a sustainable culture of digital inclusion. \n\n\n\nIntended Audience:  \n\n\n\nWhether you’re an administrator\, instructional designer\, faculty member\, or IT leader\, this session will equip you with the knowledge and tools to move your campus toward compliance—and toward a more inclusive digital learning environment. \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\nBy the end of this webinar\, participants will be able to: \n\n\n\n\nIdentify resources to help your institution prepare before the 2026 deadline\n\n\n\n\n\nRecognize the full scope of required compliance\, including websites\, mobile apps\, course materials\, and student service portals\n\n\n\n\n\nDetermine key steps your institution should take to comply with the new ADA Title II digital accessibility regulations\, including auditing\, planning\, training\, remediation\, and continuous improvement\n\n\n\n\nRegister for this Webinar

SUMMARY:Promethean ActivPanel – Discover Other Creative Usages (Self-Paced Online Course)
DESCRIPTION:Are you teaching a course at SSC and your classroom has the Promethean ActivPanel Board?  Are you looking for some exciting ways to increase engagement for your students.  Sign up for this 30-minute\, online self-paced course demonstrating various scenarios that you can use in your physical classroom:   \n\n\n\n\nScenario #1: Covers how to turn your existing resources into engaging lessons\, mark up the content\, export as a pdf.  You can then post this pdf to D2L.  \n\n\n\n\n\nScenario #2: Build lessons using the built-in templates. The Promethean ActivPanel board has several templates that instructors can easily find under the insert image option.  These templates include a Periodic Table\, Mindmaps\, Fraction Equivalence Strip\, T-Chart\, Circle Fraction\, Geoboards\, just to name a few. \n\n\n\n\n\nScenario #3: Multi-User Races.  Use the built-in timer and alphabet spinner to have two students race to brainstorm words or ideas.  \n\n\n\n\n\nScenario #4: Rub and Reveal.  Upload any image and label certain areas of the image.  An example is parts of the human brain.  Create a white shape to cover the labels.  As you teach\, reveal the labels by simply erasing the white shape that covered the labels.  \n\n\n\n\n\nScenario #4: Build a Story. Upload several images or open up Chromium to capture images from the internet.  Showcase those images on the whiteboard. Use the spinner with creative words.  Have students build a story based on the images and the words the spinner landed upon.  \n\n\n\n\n\nScenario #5: Science Lab. Upload scientific images and have students come up to the board circle certain parts based on your question you ask in class.   \n\n\n\n\n\nScenario #6: Guess Who. Upload a certain image and have students guess who it is by sliding the revealing answer.  \n\n\n\n\n\nScenario #7: Scavenger Hunt. Use the spinner tool to add certain words.  After the spinner lands on certain words\, have the students search the internet for images on a laptop they are using in class. Have students share their screens with the Promethean screen sharing tool to share their findings. \n\n\n\n\n\nScenario #8: Hundreds Plus.  Select the Hundreds Plus template (part of the many templates preloaded).   Enable multi-user mode.  Add the timer and spinner to have students circle values. Clear all annotations to begin the process with new values from the spinner tool.  \n\n\n\n\nTo learn about these teaching scenarios that are easy to set up on the Promethean ActivPanel\, sign up for this course.  Note: You must create a user account with Promethean to sign up for this free course.   \n\n\n\nTo register\, visit:  https://learn.prometheanworld.com/courses/introduction-to-activinspire/#tab-course-section__overview \n\n\n\nHave you created interesting ways of using the Promethean ActivPanel Board?  If so\, let the Teaching and Learning Center know by emailing ssconline@ssc.edu.  We would love to showcase examples of how other instructors are using this technology.  \n\n\n\nNeed assistance setting up any of these creative ideas?  Let the Teaching and Learning know (ssconline@ssc.edu) and we can brainstorm ways to make it work.

SUMMARY:OLCL Engaging Online & Hybrid Learners: Using Custom GPTs to Facilitate Interactive Learning Experiences (Vendor Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:As online learning grows\, educators face the ongoing challenge of fostering interactive\, student-centered experiences\, particularly for asynchronous learners. This challenge becomes especially significant for what the presenter terms “Accidental Asynchronous Learners”—students who prefer synchronous learning but find themselves forced into asynchronous participation due to scheduling or situational constraints. These students often struggle with high transactional distance\, a concept defined by Michael Moore (1997)\, which refers to the psychological and communication gaps that can arise in distance education. In asynchronous learning\, where there is often less interpersonal dialogue and higher course structure\, students with low learner autonomy (i.e.\, those less adept at self-directed learning) can feel isolated and unsupported. \n\n\n\nIn the face of these challenges\, Generative AI (GenAI) tools\, particularly those based on GPT models\, present a potential solution. These tools offer opportunities for simulating interactive learning experiences\, providing Accidental Asynchronous Learners with much-needed dialogue and flexible learning activities. This webinar will explore the use of custom-built GPTs to support students who cannot engage in real-time interactions\, showcasing how these tools can foster deeper learning and greater engagement in asynchronous online environments. This session is designed to be dynamic\, engaging\, and exploratory. By positioning GenAI as a thinking partner rather than a thinking replacement\, we can help students develop the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world \n\n\n\nIntended Audience:  \n\n\n\nFaculty\, instructional designers\, technologists\, design thinkers \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nUnderstand the potential of GPTs to reduce transactional distance and increase engagement for asynchronous learners.\n\n\n\nGain hands-on experience with several custom GPTs designed to simulate interactions with instructors\, peers\, and content.\n\n\n\nExplore practical strategies for integrating GenAI tools into their own teaching practices\, with a focus on student-centered learning.\n\n\n\nReflect on the role of AI in future learning environments and consider how these tools can be used to foster critical thinking and autonomy among students.\n\n\n\n\nRegister for this Event

SUMMARY:OLC: Stress-Free Course Policies: Supporting Student Learning & Easing Anxiety Without the Extra Work (Vendor Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Today’s undergraduate students experience high levels of anxiety\, which can hinder their learning. Course policies grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles can help alleviate student anxiety by supporting both cognitive and emotional aspects of learning\, thus promoting learner agency. This webinar will present findings from several semesters of student surveys that indicate common stressors and reveal ways UDL-based course policies can decrease anxiety.  \n\n\n\nThe webinar will focus on two course policies that reduce stress for students while maintaining manageable workloads for instructors. The first policy addresses flexible late work submissions\, including examples\, implementation techniques\, and student feedback on specific policies. The presenter will also share data she’s collected where students report just having these policies available to them reduces their anxiety and the number of students who actually utilize late-work policies are far fewer than one might expect. The second policy covers the acceptance of multiple assignment formats (e.g.\, audio\, video\, written)\, offering practical strategies for grading efficiency. The session will conclude with reflections on survey feedback and actionable takeaways for creating low-stress\, anxiety-reducing classroom environments. \n\n\n\nIntended Audience:  \n\n\n\nFaculty\, instructional designers\, and student support personnel \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nIdentify key factors of how student anxiety can impact learning in undergraduate classrooms.\n\n\n\nApply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to course policy development. \n\n\n\nEvaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches to late work submissions\, with consideration for grading efficiency and instructor workload. \n\n\n\nEvaluate strategies for accepting multiple formats (audio\, video\, written\, etc.) for the same assignment\, with consideration for grading efficiency and instructor workload.\n\n\n\nDevelop course policies and strategies for creating anxiety-reducing classroom environments while increasing learner agency and maintaining similar instructor workload.\n\n\n\n\nRegister for this Event
